Engine tags

okey peoples here i go .. still a somewhat newb so work with me

what are all the differen't types of tags that go into identifying an engine. I already know that like the first two letters or so are the engine serise, and then the liters, and then usually the E .. electronic fuel injection, D or S .. DOHC or SOHC, and then the T or TT that stands for Turbo or Twin Turbo.

But recently i saw some others that had the last 2 RS .. does that mean like rotery serise or something ..

So i guess what im asking is like all the different tags some one would need to know in order to identify all or most engines and features .. thnx

Re: Engine tags

um there are so many different tags between manufacturers. a lot of the letters mean different things for different companies.

some examples:

toyota:
1zz-fe: 1zz-first in the zz series, f-twin cam economy, e-electronic control
3s-gte: 3s-3rd in the s series, g-twin cam performance, t-turbocharged, e-electronic control

nissan:
i found this- http://www.freshalloy.com/cars/nissa...n_engines.html

Re: Engine tags

Re: Engine tags

they are good to know when you want to make someone (who thinks they know about cars) feel stupid. especially import kids.
