Third gen noob

Hey everyone, when it comes to Camaros I don't know a whole lot about the third generation. I like to focus on first and late-fourth gens . But the thing is, my dad has stumbled across a 1986 Camaro with only 50,000 (+/-) statued miles which has been sitting in a garage for some time now, and apparently is in *showroom* condition.

I have been reading tonight, and it appears that this car is a Sport Coupe model. It has an automatic transmission with a carbureted 305 (which I am assuming to be the LG4). The car is white w/ a black lower body color, and grey interior. The owner says he'd part with it for about $4500 CAD, and we figure we could get it for $4000. I personally have not seen the car, because it is 8 hours from where I live, but I do have a few pictures which my dad took. If anybody would like to see them, I can gladly post them. But anyways, I made this thread to get a few opinions on the car from some Camaro enthusiasts and experts So if you've got something to say, come right out and say it. I am hoping for at least a few replies

$3300 (USD) is kinda steep for a plain SC Camaro. Then again I'm not up on the avialability of 3rd gens in the great white north.

Does it run well, because my cousin has a 86 IROC Z28, and it has been sitting in the same spot for years. I bet it wouldn't run very well if it has been sitting for long. I'd keep looking, because you can find a real nice car pretty cheap. I bought my car for 1K even, and it needs some work but it's a fourth gen, and I can fix it up pretty cheap with salvage yard parts.

I'd keep looking, unless you're really itching to get a car right now. If the conversion that Morley said (3300 US$) is correct, you can probably find a much nicer car, unless they are rare in your area. If you are looking for a car in showroom condition, then I guess I'd go ahead and buy it. I'd look for a newer model. Even if you only want a Camaro with a V8, you can get a newer one with a 305 with TPI if you look hard enough, or get a 4th gen with a V6. If you're lucky, you might be able to find a 93-95 LT1 Z28 that needs some work.

That's a lot to read, but be sure that you want a car before you buy it, because it's not easy to sell and get a new one.

what do you want the car for? if its outright performance you should probly keep looking, the 305 is an expencive place to start, the car requires chassis modifications, so on most levels, its a bad overall place to start. also, a showroom quality car is not something i would reccomend buying unless you were starting a collection of some sort. Thats why everything i do to the IROC is bolt on and reverseable. so if i ever want to return her to stock, i can do it pretty easily.

Well, I am 16 and have been driving for about half a year now and was looking for something decently quick. Now before you assume I'm another kid that was sucked into fast cars from watching The Fast and the Furious, think again. Because I'm not. I have been into cars all my life, and already have a '72 Chevelle which I am slowly, but surely, restoring.

In the mean time, I kind of wanted a car that's decent looking, RWD, and fairly quick..just to scoot around in. I wouldn't drive it in the winter..I already have a car for that. I guess I would use the car just for kind of cruising around in the spring/summer etc., generally in nice weather. I wouldn't abuse the thing, and I don't want something too powerful, because, well I'm only 16.

Naturally, I thought of the 3rd generation Camaro and the Fox-body 5.0 'Stang. Idealy, I would go for a late 80s-early 90's Iroc, or RS because I think those cars look by far the best of all 3rd gen Camaros. I want something that's in nice shape with low miles, and that's what this Camaro is. I'm not looking for the perfect, most valued and sought-after Camaro ever built, just something that looks better, and is funner to drive than my current (winter) car.

That SC is none of that. It is the base model Camaro, so no ground effects or appearance packages. The LG4 was the least powerful of the V8's you could get.. 151 hp. The car wouldn't be "quick" or "flashy"
