Need help with 86 Accord

I have an 86 Accord and it is making kind of like a surging sound and there is white smoke from the tailpipe. I asked my mechanic and he said that I need to get a valve job, because the valve seals had oil leaking down in there or something like that. So, i got that done and of course had to change the head gasket and all that and it's all done and there is no change. What else should I try?

white smoke is not usually associated with oil burning... when oil burns it's usually a blue-ish smoke, and the white smoke is usually caused by coolant leaking into the cylinders (like a blown head gasket)... now assuming that the head gasket was done correctly that can illiminate that being a cause of the problem, generally the only other possible way of coolant making it's way into the cylinders is either because of a crack in the head of in the cylinder bore itself... however, if the mechanic was doing his job properly he should have at least checked the head to make sure there are no cracks in it... you might want to try bringing it back to him and telling him he didn't fix it properly and see what he says...
