oil gage going crazy????

I have a 96 Jimmy and I hear a noise coming from the floorboard once in awhile,but when I hear it the oil gage goes almost to zero-I just got an oil change not even 700 miles ago.HELP???

Okay, that would cause your overheating too...most likely. Sounds like it could be the oil pickup, located in the oil pan. That could be clogged up, causeing the loss in oil pressure, witch would also cause some overheating.

That's why it gets hot and then cools down again...It's probably getting plugged, then whatevers plugging it moves, then gets sucked back into there causeing the oil flow to slow again.

I could be wrong, but that is definatly what it sounds like.
