Very Strange Electrical Problems.. Need Help Please!!
I have a 99 Pontiac Transport and I've been having very strange intermittent problems with the electrical system...
When I use the turn signal sometimes the indicators inside both light up solid, sometimes one just flashes really fast, and sometimes one stays solid while the other blinks normally. The ABS light will come on and go off every now and then as well. The door locks don't work when I use the buttons on the drivers side but they do work when I use them on the passenger side. On the outside rear when I use my right turn signal the brake light alternates with the yellow turn light. On the left side it blinks fine. When I hit my brake lights the turn signals come on dimly and the turn lights on the dash light up dimly as well. I've changed all my bulbs. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!! |

I know from my brother who has one similar model that there is a recurrent corrosion problem due to water intrusion in the rear light assemblies that translates into all sort of wierd effects some like yours. I'd look for this first.

I had the same problem on my 97 Trans Sport. I had the brake lights and backup lights coming on when the turn signals were used and the ABS warning indicator lighting on the dash when I put the car in reverse. It was a shorted out ground wire in the ds rear tail light assembly. Water pours down the channel around the rear hatch and onto the light assembly connector block. I fixed the problem by first cleaning the wire and socket with fine sand paper then placing a few short strands of fine copper wire in the socket to tighten the connection before reassembly.
