98-00 Trans am

I was thinking about either getting a 98-00 trans am and i was wondering if those were good years for this car. I currently have a 95 3000g base with 88000 and drives pretty good but i think i should probably sell it right before it gets to 100000 miles because it would be easier to sell and i dont want things to start breaking and spending thousand of dollars because these cars are pretty expensive.(and im tired of the v6 ready to go to the v8 more power and more torque

Yes 98-00 are very good years. They use the LS1 which is a under rated beast on wheels. You would be very happy with the performance upgrade.

Not really sure what you mean, but if you are looking for the best straight line performance, get the Firebird Formula with the LS1.

Lighter (less options) and softer suspension. The WS.6 is normally quicker outta the box, thanks to less restrictive exhaust and the Ram Air at speeds.

And yes, you can add a WS.6 hood later on.

sorry just read it over didn't make sense. i was trying to say if you buy a trans am without the ram air could you buy the ram air latter as an upgrade for your car. Hopefully this makes sense

If you could, could u describe what ram air is, is it just the ws.6 hood or is it also something under the engine. I know it gets more air to like the engine and adds like 20hp or something.

Yes you can get the hood and intake system from the WS6 later on but the actual function of ram air is not theorically possible. Not for any street driven car anyway. The performance difference comes from a shorter more direct intake system (without all the twists and turns) but to actually ram air into your intake manifold faster than your engine is creating vacuum, you would have to be traveling at speeds not possible on any public road.

so you really dont get any extra hp from the upgrade ram air intake system unless your going really fast? im confused. so if you have ram air would u feel any difference if you were going 50mph and u dont have ram air.(do u feel a difference from a firebird that has ram air and one that doesn't just to make it easier)

The difference between the same car equiped with and without a ram air system should not be felt. Yes there is a difference like I said it come from the intake duct being more direct with less turns but the speed in which a car sucks air into the engine such as 17-22 HG (inches of vacuum). With this in mind the air would have to travel faster than this to create a raming effect. So you would have to be traveling 250 + MPH to even have a gain of any kind and even at this speed you are maybe adding 0.5-1.0% of additional volume of air. So the answer is yes with the ram air system you would have a improvement but no the whole system is not functional and you would find the same improvement from adding a CAI induction system but the Ram air looks cooler IMO.

Yes and no, Yes it could possibly offer a small gain because the CAI system takes its air from under the vehicle were it is more dense/cooler and as we all know cooler oxygen rich air creates more efficient burn and adds more power but because the ram air system uses a less restrictive duct and because of the routing of the air in a upward motion you would not get the full effect of the CAI anyway.. So if it were me and I had desided to add a ram air hood. I would add the Ram Air intake as well.

The Ram Air car has a lower airbox than that of the non-Ram Air car. Easily changed as well.

CAI if you will is basicly an aftermarket lid. The 'Ram Air' is basicly the cold air intake.
