Hi Everyone...
My Vitara is making a loud high pitch squeel when I start it. It can last for a few seconds & gets louder then the noise comes down. It tends to do this when the weather is cold/cooler. Has anyone had this problem. I am now at apx 96,000 km & I know it will soon be time to get the timing belt taken care of? |

Also, which motor do you have? 1.6L or 2.0L? I've got the shop manuals so if you need any information let me know and I'll see what I can dig up. -Phu

That exact thing was happening to me when i started. Change the alternator belt and a/c compressor belt and that should fix your prob. If you dont go to a dealer, make a note of the belt nos. Make sure you get the exact numbers on the belts. I am almost certain that would rectify your problem.

Hey Guys.. Thanks for your reply... Ok.. I do know it has to be some sort of belt that is causing this problem. How many belts do these things have ?? LOL... I recently had my power steering belt & my altenator belt replaced last month.
Phu as for your question with regards to the engine.. I have the 1.6L. I do not think the problem could be my a/c belt as I don't have air conditioning (if that makes a difference)... I just hope this squealling belt noise is not an expensive noise.. HA HA HA! |

Re: High pitch squeel
suzuki has an updated tensioner and belt to help this problem but in my experience it only fixes it for 12k then you need another belt once you have updated the tensioner

Ah, problem solved. The belt(s) just needed to be adjusted. My mechanic forgot to tell me they may squeal when new ones are installed...
