Performance Shift

On my 98 its blue which makes it difficult to see. Also for some time it stopped working, then after someone jacked my headunit it started working again.

Re: perf shift

I think what Big-L is saying, is out of the stock cars, the GTP and GTX are the only two with per. shift.
And Tim, both my 98s blue lights. When the sun hits the dash, can't see them at all. But look good at night.

Re: perf shift

hey,
does anyone know if the perf shift light exists on the newer GTP's that don't come with it? is it displayed on the dash or the DIC?

Re: perf shift

No, the only thing you can get is the Comp package. Shift buttons on wheel. Doesn't raise press in trans. That's per Pontiac.

The per shift for your year, was on the GTP and GTX models. Has a button on the shift knob. When pushed it raises pressure in trans. Gives it a faster and harder shift. Nice if your are racing someone.
A reprogramed PCM will give it to you also. But you would have to wire a switch to turn it off. Or buy the shift knob from a GTP or GTX. Then wire it.

Re: perf shift

The PCM will give you per. shift. But you will have no way of turning it off, without a switch or the button on the switch.
On your car, without the PCM you won't have per. shift.

Mine is a 2002 GTP. Unfortunately, Performance Shift was not available on the '01-'03 models. The DIC was not changed though so the read-out is there, just never lit up. When you add a reprogrammed PCM, you have to add a wire to your PCM wiring harness (Pin 21 on the clear connector). After adding the pin and wire, you can either ground it directly for "Always-On" Performance Shift, or you can add a switch.

After you do this, the Performance Shift light in your DIC will be lit when the system is on.

I have a 00 GTP with the Performance Shift Feature. When you turn it will shift at really high rpms like just before it hits orange but sucks a lot of fuel. Why didnt they put it in the 01 to 03 models? Which years did they have it in?
