Help request -- considering purchase of late 60s camaro

Hope this is the appropriate spot/forum for this thread -- let me know if it isn't.

I found an ad for a '68 Camaro SS without engine, no rust, needs finishing. I have a 327 that can go in it. I'd appreciate any help heading into potential negotiations because I only have vague ideas of what's important in such a purchase. I don't want to screw myself out of too much money by not knowing features' worth.

First - any ballpark base prices?? I've started a little research (comparing camaros on ebay and another classified site), but don't yet have a $feel for the car I'm considering.

If I complete fixing it up, it won't be original (ie no matching numbers, etc). I have a feeling there's a point where money might be spent stupidly in a nonoriginal project. I see myself keeping it, but I don't want to go overboard on putting money into it if I would have to sell someday. Comments??

If I go look at it, what are good questions to ask?? For an SS, what all should be present?? Any other type or source of research out there??

I guess that's a start.....I know a couple other details regarding the car/ad, but not much more.

well its up to u really cause u know its not gonna be a numbers matching car, and if u still want it which is what it sounds like then go for it its not always about what u can get back out of the car, most people w/ third gens like myself dont fix up their cars in the hopes that when they sell someone will appreciate all the work and pay for it but because we love this american muscle car and dont care if anyone else does, and of course the need for speed keeps us dumping money into it too......oh and what year is that 327 if its old enough u might be able to talk 89iroc into telling u how to build a chevy 302, the motor of all motors to put into that beast

ohhh but one more thing find out why it dosent have the motor in it if they built a drag motor for it and it was a track only car alot of other things that add weight will probably be gone too and i doubt it cause old cars are strong but the structual integrity might be weakened as well

ebay is a great place to do homework on this. Also, try..

and other car sale websites, dont buy online without actually driving a car, but you can do alot of homework as far as pricing and comparisons to whats out there. there is also kelly blue book. and NADA pricing.

as far as turning that 327 into a 302 isnt hard, if youre really curious ill definately help ya out. but for a daily driven street car, youll probly be happier with the 327.
