Question 99 Taurus "Low Coolant" light bug - well, it's buggin' me...

The idiot light for "Low Coolant" is on almost all the time. There's plenty of coolant in the reservoir - so what gives?

The sensor is a comon problem, but you have to buy the resevoir with the sensor even if the sensor can be removed. My solution was to dissconect the sensor, it will make the light dummy light go off, just remember to check your coolant periodically. All you need to remove the connector is to remove two screws and the sensor is on the bottom of the tank.

Do you have to drain the tank? Guess I'll give that a go this weekend.

No you don't need to drain the tank. It is a tight fit to get to the sensor, but by removing both screws that are on top of the tank there should be enough play in the connecting hoses to dissconect the sensor. If you plan on possibly replacing the sensor in the future, I'd probably put electrical tape on the harness connector so that the pins don't get too coroted over time.

Outstanding. Can't be any tighter than getting those back three plugs in! What a major PAIN that is. Good grief. I've got scars. Still, that beats the drain and fill on the transmission... but not by much.
