Exhoust Problem

I have been having a problem with my exhaust system for the past week. Something was already wrong with it but now its really bad. What was wrong before was there was a little bit of noise coming up from by the driver's seat and it wasnt bad. The muffler is kinda loose as it is, it just hangs down a little further than it should. But today when I was driving, I turned at a Stop light and it just got really loud. And now its really really loud. So what could it be? How do I get it Fixed? How much will it cost? Please help.

Re: Exhoust Problem

A ) - Your muffler broke free from the pipe and is hanging there

B ) - Your muffler fell off completely

Look under your car and see if you still have a muffler or if it is still just hanging there.

Re: Exhoust Problem

Since the noise is near the drivers seat, check the catalytic converter as well. Hell, check the whole exaust system while you're down there if that's not the case, it's not too hard to do.

Re: Exhoust Problem

I would've also said maybe an exhaust leak such as a crack in your pipe near your driver's side - but then you said the thing about it getting really loud when you turned a corner, so I'm thinkin it's either muffler, or like phoenix said, the cat converter. But yeh i agree, check the whole system.

First get up and get away from the computer, next walk outside to your car and get on your hands and knees, look under the vehicle and see if you can see a broken or rusted out componant on the exhaust system.
If so, you can get it fixed by going to an autoparts store and purchasing the parts and installing them yourself or you can take it to a muffler shop and have them repair it.
How much will it cost..don't know, can't see whats wrong.

Well, there is a part that is right after the cat., it looks like a clap of some sort, it's really rusty and looks croded.
