Airbox Mod

I have a 99 Yukon 4dr 5.7
I have looked under the hood and noticed on the airbox It has that Box (where it says VOREC) what does that do? I am gonna close it off with a cover i made up and wondered if it would be a problem or not. I am doing thins until I order my Intake for it. Does anyone on here know what that box is for? I think i read before someone said its a resonator for the airbox but who needs that?
thanks for any input that you'll have GOOD OR BAD

Re: Airbox Mod

Hi,
I don't quite remember this on the 95 Suburban that I had, but you do need the intake resonator for the reason why the engineers put it there to begin with - it tunes your air intake and gives you better gas mileage.
Taking it out would be similar to what some people do to their motorcycles when they clean out their exhaust pipes - they do lose horse power to gain noise.

Hope this helps.
Take care, Eggert Johnson

I dont think so....

Not to but in on a post that has been here for a while, but,

That box your speeking of is not going to damage gas mileage.
That box yes is to tune the sound of the intake.
The more air in, the more air out, the better the engine runs.

All that box does is sound. Take it out, and you wont lose gas mileage.

Re: Airbox Mod

Gentlemen,
the air intake and the exhaust system are like organ pipes with gases moving through them.
They do resonate at certain frequencies.
The phrase "tuning" of an engine has the same root as the "tuning" of a trumpet or flute.
You optimize the flow of gases.
There is a lot of physics involved in this.
Musical wind instruments and engines have a lot in common as far as the flow of gases are concerned.
You get more air in when the engine and the column of gas in the air intake system are working in harmony.
Take care, Eggert
