Remote Starter question

I have installed a remote starter in my 2003 Silverado now my wife wants one, she has a 99 Concorde LXI and the instructions say that I must run a loop around the igintion lock, how hard is it to get to the lock and whats the best way to get to it?

Also if you have a recommendation as to which remote starter to go with would be helpful, maybe there is one that would work better with this vehicle then others, all we really want to do is add remote start.

it sounds like the Concorde uses a transponder key as a security measure. The "loop" around the ignition lock is part of a security bypass module that houses an extra transponder key (like the valet key) and bypasses the security when remotely started. Did you personally install the Silverado RS? If so, you will remember a security bypass module, albeit it used Passlock II security, and it "learned" your ignition code. The transponder type vehicles have to have a chipped key installed in the bypass module.

As for getting to it, the decorative trim must be removed from the steering column so the bypass modules "loop" can be wrapped around the ignition switch. That way the hidden transponder key can give a signal to the ignition switch falsely indicating the key is in the ignition.

If you installed the Silverdo RS, you can do this. Just the security bypass wiring has changed.

Ditto above. Some companies have databus interfaces so you do not have to do the loop trick. I recomend anything from DEI. www.directed.com

First is it a black key or gray key. black key dont need bypass, gray does it is a 556u, or a 555u. there will be 3 or so screws or torx screws under steering wheel cover take those out and then there will be little snaps inside the cover you have to push in on the top pannel and pull apart from the front. hope this helps
