Question Up grading computer chip on a Boxster?

I have a 97 Boxster. I believe I can chip the car out and add a few mods such as airintake to bring the bhp up considerably. Does anyone know of a good place to get what I need?:smoker2:

One of the few places I know that does re-programming of the motronic system for Porsche is FVD.

FVD

I am doing a 3.4 conversion on my 2.5 Boxster.

I noticed that you are oversea's. Would there be a difference in computers for the American spec cars? It seems that it would be a pain in the butt to send a computer across the ocean when I might do the same here. Those prices are in pounds to.

The prices are in euro , and btw you have an interesting project there Q , and yeah the US spec cars are way less powerfull... Manufacturers claim that the differences aren't that big but they are big if you try it out on a dyno , fortunatelly i live on the "right" side of the ocean... Not that i have anything against the US , but Europe is better for cars at least , unrestricted roads in Germany , all the best cars in the most powerful versions...

You are right about the roads and the cars!!! Dallas has the worst drivers I have ever seen! I work for BMW also here, and there is a big difference in the cars that Europe offers. I have found some chips from a California company, but they are a little pricier. If you know of a link to a European manufacturer of chips that would accomodate a US spec car please let me know. Thanks

we have our computers sent from Australia to Germany for FVD to do the work.
If your US spec cars are down on hp for smog requirements, sending the computer away is probably a good thing.

Another option would be to piggy-back a Motec or Autronic onto your factory computer.
...they can be bought ex Australia, and our currency exchange is a lot more favourable.

Thanks Tom Its slowly getting there, wish I had more time to spend on it.

It's not that easy , because usually us spec cars also have a different exhaust with more restrictive cats or rear mufflers etc, and they have chips that set the engine to make it run good combined with the new exhaust , but then again a combination like a good sport exhaust + intake + computers upgrade may not be that effective if it comes to hp , but for sure the engine will be better with it , and if you consider some more serious mods then this is a good start...

I was always under the impression that the smog detuning was done via the camshafts & engine management.......

Thumbs up

You guy's down there are enjoying all the benefits! Although there are percs to being in the states, owning a Porsche that has to conform to certain specs is frustrating. I think I have found a place in Cali that will help me out. www.superchips.com
Smog and engine management can be monitored via the computer also, but I am really looking to bring my bhp up about 40 or so.

So petrol is cheap there.. At least you never waited in line like my folks did Back in Rhodesia!
As far as the civics and such, you would laugh your ass off. Dallas is a little MExico also, and they lower jeep wranglers and put spoilers on Mercedes and lexus sedans. Gold package? Lets see....gold steering wheels, chain license plate frames, hydrolics on hyndai sonatas and ford escorts!!!
It's quite funny to see it all. I bet your roads are better than ours.
By the way Q, nice photography!!
Rhodie packs his bags and moves to Sydney:frog: The sheila's are hot down there!!:bandit:
