305 Runners

Aright, how would a decent set a aftermarket runners help out a slightly modded 305 tpi? engine is breathing well (basic mods) and runs great. ive read a lot of how this might shift the power curve, and im wondering if anyone has any ideas.

Re: 305 Runners

dont waste your money on runners...buy a stealth ram and be done with it!!...you'd never have breathing trouble with your set up ever!

Re: 305 Runners

Your better off doing the base and the runners at the same time. The plenum can be ported to match the size of the runners. I think using siamesed runners give you a bit more power in the upper rpm range but I dont think it would make a very big difference.

Look into an adjustable fuel pressure regulater also if you want to get a bit more out of your tpi.

Re: 305 Runners

yeah, you guys are kinda gettin carried away with me now... :-p i actually think im gonna go with a fastchip first...but im really curious if slp runners would take away my low range torque or just add more to my top end. ive been learning a lot about the 305 in the past few months. ive driven some fast cars and the torque my 91 is puttin out is just great, i really wanna balance it out with some more hp and hopefully increase it if possible.

Re: 305 Runners

if you waste money on runners and a base you could have went with a holley stelth ram and made more hp and tq than you would have off of a chip and runners.....people have reported awesome gains and you dont lose brethe at 4500 like the typical long runner tpi system

Re: 305 Runners

Buying a holley stealth ram will cost you over 2500 bucks... Sure they make good high end power, but tpi wasnt designed to pull hard into high rpm range. It makes great power in the low and mid range, where even the lt1 lacks power around 2k rpms.

TPIS big mouth intake base is 425... They are over priced and I think edlebrock has the exact same one for cheaper. Theres also a couple other bases out there, ones made for vortec heads.
Arizona Speed and Marine has a good set of runners but they are 415. Theres lots of those out there too but do some searching and read up about them to see what kind of quality they are.

Im sticking with TPI for my 383 mainly because I want the car to appear stock and I like the look of the intake. It wont do anything at 6k rpms but it will make a crap load of power down low, where I like it.
