Problems with the backlight of a dash on a 96

For some reason whenever I start driving my car now, the backlight for the dash area isn't coming on. All of the signals that show the status of the car (like 'ETS off' and the check battery light, etc.) work just fine, but my usual ambient red glow that shows lights up my speed and gas guage isn't working. Anyone know how I can fix this? And if so, please explain in laymen terms...>.<

The dash pad above the gauges pops of - just clips, might take a bit of a pull, but will pop right off.

Remove the screws holding the gauge package in, dissconect electrical plugs.

If you then look at the back of the gauge package you should see alot of little black things - give them a quarter turn, they should come right out with the bulb(s) attached.

The bulbs just push in - read the number of the bulb, take that number to the autoparts store, get new bulbs and replace them.

Hhmm, Do you have NO backlight at all working in dash? If not you might want to check to see if your tailights are working. I had a similar problem and Tailights and fog lights also didn't work. Turned out it was a blown fuse (and not the first obvious one listed in manual)
