Question how to repair/replace cigarette lighter in 2004 cavalier??

i have a 2004 cavalier and the other day my cigarette lighter went out. i was charging my phone and just like that it quit working. i know nothing about car repair, but would like to try to fix it myself. can anybody offer advise on how to go about replacing or repairing it? thanks! carrie

Have you replaced the fuse for it?...It may have blown and is an easy $2 repair if that is the problem...good luck!

in line fuse ( fusable link ) on wire not in fuse panel 1-2 dollar fix

I would check to see if I was getting voltage at the lighter socket using a volt meter. If not juice, I would first ensure the connection in the back is secure then I would trace/replace the fuse. If you are getting juice, the unit is bad. The unit is held in place by a bolt in the rear of the socket...is kinda hard to get to. I replaced mine lighter, took about 20 mins.
