Thumbs up Transmission info

OK, you're cruisin' the interstate from dinner out and while goin' up a grade you feel a shudder in the floor and the seat while your tach shows an increase in RPM...something's slippin'!!! Be cool, downshift to 3rd and drive the speed limit the rest of the way home & save the clutches in yer torque converter. Change or have your transmission fluid and filter changed at your favorite repair shop. Happened to me around 50K ago and no problems since on my '92.

Now this time you're cruisin' and lookin' cool in yer '96 to '00 and it slips bad going into 3rd gear!! Because the computer shifts the transmission with shift solenoids and being electric solenoids like on yer icemaker in your fridge that will fail, not enough pressure to hold the 3-4 clutch pack together will let them slip and wear all the clutch material off until they have to be replaced after removing the transmission at a trans shop.
Try pulling the shifter in 3rd, because the manual shift lever overides the solenoids and allows pump pressure to be applied to the clutches and then let the trans shop replace your faulty 2-3 shift solenoid. Wife kept driving the car in OD until all the 3-4 clutch material was deposited to the bottom of the pan and the repair was over $1200.
