any accessories on or just when sitting there with the a/c on it will raise up to around 1800 rpms on mine and drop to norm. I did have had the same problem with mine, try lookin at where the wires connect to the alternater, their is a wiring harness right under the steering colum shaft. On mine the shaft was rubbing on the wires grounding out the wires.Bad design on toyotas part. I rerouted it to over the shaft, which works perfect. This little problem costed me a alt. and lots and lots confusion because when the truck isnt receiving the correct amount of voltage it triggers the idle control to go up and down and some times it would stick at high R 's. Hopefully I ve helped My specs. 22r 2wd ext.

Re: My truck idles high and low, high and low...
I have a 1990 toyota pickup 4wd v6 and the idle would go from about 1000 rpm's and jump to 1300 rpm's and back down pretty fast over and over. a toyota mechanic looked at it and it was the throttle position sensor located on the throttle body
there are two little phillips screws holding mine onto the bottom of the throttle body. I believe yours is just to the left of the top radiator hose just behind the passenger headlight, mounted on the throttle body. I would suggest taking it to a mechanic because you need an ohm meter to check certain terminals and a feeler gauge to do all sorts of weird crap. anyway they fixed mine in a matter of minutes and it was free, they fixed it in the parking lot. |
