Question door lock cylinder -repair after break-in

Theives broke into my truck by pushing the door lock cylinder in about .5inch, and turning the cylinder to unlock the door. Now the cylinder has fallen into the bottom of the door. Thankfully, that was the only damage, and nothing valuable stolen.

Now I've got a few questions:
1) How hard is it to remove the drivers door panel? Do I need any special tools?
2) Anyone know how to repair this so it don't happen again? Any upgrade for the cylinder to hold it in place?
3) I was using the key, and not the FOB(what does FOB mean here?), so is the factory security system activated when I manually lock the door on the inside, then shut the door? Do I need to use the FOB to activate the security system? Or press the power lock button to activate the security system?
4) Why didn't the security system go off?
5) will I need a new cylinder?

I can get in/out using the remote unlock.

Thanks,
samurai003

Re: door lock cylinder -repair after break-in

you got off easy, this just happened to me two night ago, but they broke my ignition cylinder, took my 1k watt amp and speaker system, werent able to take the truck but they left lights on drained the battery completely locked the doors and now I'm locked out. They also punched in the door lock cylinders (both of them) so now I'm trying to figure out a way to open hood to change battery or open doors. any help you get will be greatly appreciated by me also. I drive 01 Silverado.
