I took my new replica wheels to my local tire store in my town, and their "after high school wheel tech" tried to balance my new wheels/tires, and used their new Hunter GSP 9700 machine on my wheel/tire, and my God when I test drove it, my new E60 rode rough, and I was very disappointed! ![]() But the tire store general manager saw the problem, and did the right thing, and took my 04 BMW 530i to the local Import shop in my community with a former BMW mechanic/tech/manager, and he used their SONAR Wheel balancer, and that was all I needed, my car has never ran smoother, and my Local tire store manager even picked up the tab for me. (At first I thought too it might had been my new replicas, but it wasn't them, because they were tested for roundness, etc and they were perfectly round). In conclusion: You might want to try to find a BMW import store with a SONAR Wheel Balancer and give it a try, (keep in mind this might not solve your problem, so "wheel and deal" with the manager at the BMW import shop you choose, and SONAR Balancing should not cost you over $17.50 per wheel), I kind of believe might solve your shaking problem, beings it just started when you installed your new clones wheels, (They will test the wheel for perfect roundness when their balancing, and should be able to tell you if your clones are perfectly round or not, also did your new clone wheels need hub centric rings?). I wish you the best....and be sure to stay in touch....and keep me posted. Presley 348 ![]() PS, What Year and Model BMW is yours? (Those M5 wheels look great, I came real close getting those instead of my Parallel Ms)

Steve: I am just curious. Did your wheels come from Nathan at "The Wheel Exchange" already mounted, balanced with tires? Or did you buy your replica/clone wheels and had the tires installed and balanced on your M5's wheels at your local tire shop? Presley 348

Steve: Did you ever get your wheel balancing problem resolved? If not, the below research on: SONAR Balancing might can helped you??? Below insert taken from the www: SONAR WHEEL BALANCING: http://www.beachequip.com/balancers.htm Presley348 ![]() "1. Test Drive Test drive the vehicle and determine if the vibration is being generated from the front or rear. Determine if it is occurring at cruise speed, during lane changes, etc.. Most vibrations are caused by tires and wheels and are the result of either an imbalance or an out of round condition. 2. Measuring Runout If conventional balancing has been tried, the tire and wheel must be measured for both radial and lateral rubout. This can be done electronically with the F99 Sonar Balancer or with the Beissbarth manual runout gauge.
Fact: On today's lighter vehicles with rigid tires and suspensions, vibration problems are more prevalent than ever. This problem presents a profit opportunity for the service center which arms itself with the proper knowledge and equipment to diagnose and solve these complaints. Re: Re: 86 528 wheel shaking( HELP)
Hello Steve,
I ran across your problem and I had to register to tell you the solution. It drove me crazy with my 88 528. It's the upper control arm bushings......... They wear out very fast for some reason. I installed new Dynan (not sure of spelling) bushings and ...gone. Even braking going down hill? Sound familiar. Email me if you have any furthr questions. |
