Front Speakers

Hello, I just have a quick question about my front speakers. I have a 2001 cavy and was wondering if I could put 6x9's in the front doors instead of 4x6's. Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't bother to be honest. You would have to bring the speaker into the interior away from the door so that it didn't foul the window regulator. I don't like 4x6s as the main cone is supposed to be mid range or mid-bass even on 3-ways but the oval cone can distort voices and similar frequency sounds. I always feel the best bet is to go with a component kit. Something from JL or MB Quart. a 4" component kit would come with 2 4" mid-range speakers, 2 1" tweeters (high frequencies [treble]) and a pair of passive crossovers, these split the signal to the speakers and send the mid-range signal to the mid and the high to the tweet. You can make a very simple bracket from wood (MDF is best [particle board if you like]) It will give a much better sound. 6x9s that close to you wont sound too great!! Other than that a pair of JL TR series 4" will fit perfectly and sound great, they come with an adapter plate for a 4x6 whole. It's always best to keep the bass behind you otherwise your soundstage will get confusing! From front to back this layout works best, tweets, mids, (poss midbass say 6" cones for 'fill-in') and then bass. My Ideal set up is a 5" component kit up front, 5" mid bass in the side panels behind the front seats and then a couple of tens in the trunk with the wholes vacated by the 6x9s open to let the sub's sound into the passenger compartment. All fed power from amps. a 4-way for the componet kit and the mid-bass and one for both subs. I'b probably run all JL cones with Memphis amps.

If you get a deacent deck and good 4x6's you will be fine. Also the adjustments on your deck will help you out too. Also the addition of bass blockers " caps" on the red wire in will save your speakers and will keep them sounding cleaner. Your don't need to go over board on audio ^^^^^^ unless you want to. I currently am running a Pioneer DEH-6500, Pioneer 4X6 2 way's, bass blockers to those and rockford fosgate punch 6X9's..all wire connections were soldered and black taped. The rest is up to the fine tuning of your deck. Thats where you can make it sound like shit or quality. Never use the pre-settings becuase they really suck... Massive systems also add alot of weight..

and that was over the top how? No Matter what deck you have. If you are after excellent sound quality then you'll want an Amp on these speakers. My proposed system was shown as 'my ideal set-up'
4x6's no matter how good (not that any of the top-end companies make them, hmmm I wonder why) they destort mid-range frequencies. Round Cones are far better. I also only said a pair of tens as this is all you need for a good bass sound. Overboard would be 2 5 1/2" compontent kits and two 6" component kits in the front doors about 4 8" mid-bass's in the rear doors or panels, 4 6x9s in the rear shelf and the 2 15's in the trunk all running off of 2 way amps except the subs which would be on one each. That's overboard! What you have said is obviously your own system and you may be happy with that, I'm not challenging that but It could still sound a LOT better! Get of my back.
