1941 Ford Convertible

Im on vacation as some of you know. My Grampa was telling me some great stories about his '41 Ford Convertible (he still has the original BOS for $45, he didnt buy it new, it was like '45 or something) and i want to build him a model of it. Ive searched Ertl, Revell, Ebay, etc... but cant find a kit. ive found the '40 but was wondering if anyone knew of a '41 model.. I did find a few 1:1 pics of the '41 on Google and there are very different trims to each so id rather not have to mod the '40 kit. thanks for the help all.

The only 41's were the woody wagon by AMT, and a resin version (not sure if there was a convertible) by R&R and Mike's Miniature Motors. Not sure if either one of them was stock, and Mike's went away when he died. For the easiest conversion, you'll have to find a Revell '40 CV kit and combine w/ the parts from the AMT '41 to make it. Shouldn't be too hard if you research it.

Starting with the Revell ProModeler '48 Ford Convert, cut the front away at the front door line up to the body line leaving the window cowl intacked. Using AMT's '41 woody, cut the front away in the same manner so that it fits the '48. The Hood from the '41 needs to be cut down the middle to line it up with the '48 cowl. A little triming from the bottom of the fenders is all that remains to do. Or wait for the resin 41 conversion for the '48 coming in March.


Nothin' is glued here, but you'll get an idea.

hey guys, thanks alot for the advice. i think ill start with the '40 kit and steal a few parts from the AMT '41 for now. if the '48 resin kit looks good when it comes out ill jump ship. thanks again! i love this forum

You need to use the dog's advice (and not my original advice for a '40) and start w/the Revell '48 Ford convertible; do a google search to see the differences between the years. The '41 body was changed from the '39/'40 style while the '48 remained pretty much the same as the '41 body. Revell offered the '48 convertible in their Pro Modeler series and later in their standard format; there's one on Ebay right now. Or wait for the resin. So forget using a '40, just combine AMT's '41 front end w/Revell's '48 back end.

if i can locate the 48 pro-modeller kit ill do it that way, it seems easy enough. thanks Zoom and Dog. i might PM you guys when i get the kit if i run into trouble.

There is a regular '48 convert kit #85-2163, that that can only be built stock, no hotrod parts. So that should work, unless Grampa was a hotrodder.
