A Problem with my system

just recently I bought a 15" neon light to go in my car. it said it went into a cig. lighter, but it didnt work with it so i bought a 3 way adaptor for it. i turned the car on, it lit up, then i turned the music up to see how it lit up with the beat(says it "dances with the music") and all my speakers just stoped playing music but the track was still going. I reset my cd player and tried to turn it up again and it did it again. So then i turned the subs down on my cd player and it played the song fine with volume up. I am clueless as to what the problem is. as far as i know, the speakers shut off when the subs kick in. can anyone help me? I miss my hard beats.
