Re: WTF is boost creep

What car do you have, I'm assuming a WRX?

Boost creep is when wastegate is unable to bypass enough exhaust gasses around the turbine on the turbo.

I wouldn't nessesarily say it makes a car slow, but it makes it unsafe to run. What happens is that there absolutely no control for boost pressure. Usually, as you punch the car (being equipped with a boost gauge), as you RPMs climb so does your boost, and it won't stop at it's max.

You can boost creep typically by a TBE set, usually the downpipe cat section. Since you said you are installing an "exhaust", I'm not sure if it's a back box, cat back, or a TBE.

If it is anything other than the back box or cat-back, will cause boost creep to a certain extent. However, there has been cases where just a back box caused boost to creep. I cannot verify that as it is heresay.

A BOV will definately NEVER, EVER help The factory BOV serves perfectly well until you go upwards in boost and the range of higher power turbo.

Since boost creep is a mechanically related problem, a boost controller or any other electronic management would serve no purpose as control of the wastegate will not prevent boost creep if the wastegate ITSELF is not mechanically fit to flow enough exhaust to prevent boost creep.

Ways to prevent boost creep is by porting the wastegate or retaining the certian factory elements of the exhaust system.
