No power

I have an 83 Cutlass Supreme with a 305 4 bbl. chevy in it. The problem started a couple days ago when it suddenly lost the power, then got even worse so the car would not go any faster than 10 miles per hour plus a strange really loud and dull noise appeared (like the engine had a super detonation going on or the exhaust was plugged). Later I noticed that it makes the noise even in park when reved up to 3ooo rpm. i checked everyng. Most of the accesories are new, but the engine is original and has never been touched. The carb was built with perfomance parts, it has headers (but no cats or mufflers), all ignition is new, so is fuel sysem, correct timing, and good compression. Please help I dont have any ideas about what can be wrong with it

Re: No power

Check how hot your plugs are firing off . You could be looking at anyhing from bad plugs , bad wires , bad coil to a faulty ecm. If it's an old school car like that it shouldn't be too difficult to run down. Try running it for codes before you replace anything just to save some money and guess time.

Its an old school - carb nothing much. Now I really suspect the carb because its been giving me problems such as severe bogging before that. It makes me think the car wont go because of that stupid "QuadroBog" (AKA QudroJet) and my vacuum is sort of low as well 15 in. Ill go and get a carb from a junkyard car and see if it helps.
