Question Remove Stereo from 99 Firebird

Hey everyone,

I am trying to remove my stereo from a 99 firebird. I seem to be having trouble removing the front piece. How hard do I have to pull to get it off, or is it bolted through the inside? Any help on how I can remove my stereo is appreciated.

Re: Remove Stereo from 99 Firebird

A huge help I've found with my car has been to buy a Haynes and Chilton manual.

Essentially, they take a car they're writing on, and tear it down piece by piece, then put it back together...and I mean completely tear it apart. There are good blow-up diagrams and step-by-step procedures on how to do stuff from the basic (changing bulbs) to complex (pulling your engine). I recommend buying both versions, because quite often one can be unclear on something while the other one is better (different depending on the job). If there isn't anyone around to show you, then it's a good alternative to doing it with no help.

The cover plastic piece , snaps into place you just have to pull it out and then remove 4 -6 bolts(depending on which unit you have) and you will have access to the rear panel. Good Luck.

How hard do i have to pull? I feel like i am going to break it apart. The bottom part seems to be coming away from the dash but the corners will not budge. I know this part snaps on, but how hard is it to get it off?

Re: Remove Stereo from 99 Firebird

the snaps are located at each corner and are meant to expand once in the rivets and if its been in place for a extened amount of time it may be harder than usual to remove it but your best bet is to get your fingers or a screw driver(flat head ofcourse) at 2 corner at a time on each side and keep applying more steady pressure until it pops out and if you hear cracking let it be and spray a very small amount of wd40 at each corner while being carefull not to get any of this in any electrical device.
