Question Intermittent stalls - again

Ok, took it to Autozone, code scanner didn't show any codes.

I've been putting injector cleaner and gas treatment (alternating) in with the fuel whenever possible. Last fill-up was mid-grade.

Stalled twice while backing out of a slot at the hardware store at lunch and once while backing into a slot at Autozone. Stalled once while pulling into a slot (in drive) at the grocery store on xmas eve.

I'm thinking I need to check the fuel filter to start. No idea where it is.

Is it in-line or ..?

What could be some other possible causes for an intermittent stall?

There's no sputter involved, it simply cuts off.

Re: Intermittent stalls - again

All the times it stalls it seems it does when you are parking, when the idle is low and not alot of throttle is being used. It is possibly that your throttle body is dirty as well as the idle air control (IAC). I doubt that it is a fuel filter problem cause it would be causing problems when there is more of a demand for fuel such as higher speeds or during acceleration. Idle issues or stalling at low idle could be like i said , a dirty TB, a dirty IAC ,or possibly a problem with the TPS but i doubt that cause it idles fine other wise from what i have read in your post. It would not hurt either to change the fuel filter anyhow. It should be located on the inside of the frame rail on the passenger side directly under the passenger door.

Yeah, it stalls only when the idle is low.

What's the proper method for cleaning the throttle body and the IAC? How can I check the throttle position sensor?

Thanks for telling me where the filter is. I was hoping it was in-line. I replaced the fuel filter in my last truck (2000 Frontier) and it was pretty simple. Hopefully this is just as easy.

Thanks!!

Re: Intermittent stalls - again

My 2000 4.3 liter truck was stalling at idle, and I took it to the dealer. It turned out to be the connection plug that goes into the coil. The gm factory never installed it properly with a seal. It had completely corroaded and the wires were just holding on. Check that connection

Replaced several coil wires in my shop, no or weak spark and these had no external visible issues.

Re: Intermittent stalls - again

all you need is a can of carb cleaner and an old toothbrush. scrub it pretty good, dont spray a lot of carb cleaner into the intake that stuff pools and likes to wash the oil off cylinder walls so just what you need to use to clean it. but clean it good, if you have to start it up and clear the intake if you have to and then go back to cleaning it.
