E350 w/ Triton V8 query

Hi,

I am on the verge of buying a 2002 E350 box truck with a Triton 5.4L gas V8 and I wanted to see if anyone has a heads up for potential problems or even positive comments. This particular truck runs good (no smoke, no engine noise) and has only 50,000 miles.

I was recently on the verge of buying a similar GMC with a 6.5L turbo diesel (which had more torque but I'll be pulling light loads of less than 3,000 pounds so the gas engine should be OK). However, a mechanic friend said the 6.5 diesels tend to blow head gaskets and the motors were very expensive to repair/replace. This proved to be accurate.

Any similar problems with the Triton motor (or trans for that matter)? Thanks for your feedback.

Nope, the Ford modular (Triton) engines are VERY durable. One thing to keep in mind is to change the ATF every year if you are towing, and make SURE you have the appropriate tow package (trans cooler) for the weight you are pulling.
