Question Install Aftermarket Radio in 2000 Impala??

I have recently purchased a aftermarket cd player for my 2000 impala. I was told by a guy at Circut City that the only way I can get the new cd player installed is to have my factory radio mounted in trunk of my car and that I also need a $90 harness to splice the two together. Is this true or is it a line of bull? Somebody tell me cause this guy was acting like I either do this or leave the factory radio in.

Re: Install Aftermarket Radio in 2000 Impala

this is true. i tried to install one in my car and found out after looking at the wire harness on the back of the radio. I just got a factory cd player, and i'm happy with that. I would even suggest and aftermarket cd disc changer unless you are trying to get the super sound system thing going. I know there is almost a module box you could install in the dash itself too. look into that. Also the cord doesn't cost 90 bucks. it cost around 65.

let me know

They charge so much due to the labor involved in doing that usually. I watched best buy do the install for my car, looked like a handful =D. And yes it has to be done for after-market stereo's. Seeing how my car had a rack for radio equipment, I stuck the radio there rather than against the wheel well.

we have decent speakers. i looked on ebay and got the factory cd player with tape deck. and installed it myself, which was pretty easy. the cd player has RDS and evrythign. i got a steal, PERFECT condition at $26 after shipping. and a tip is to look under different chevy cars, like cavalier, montecarlo, blazer maybe, mailbu, some of them use the same exact stereo. so good luck

Did you have to get the RDS radio unlocked? If so how did you do it.
I got one off ebay and it is locked.

Re: Install Aftermarket Radio in 2000 Impala??

The $90 harness is true actually its a converter piece that allows the new radio to still have the functions the old radio had like reseting the oil light and alarm chirp etc. The part about mounting the old radio in your trunk is false. I have a 2000 impala and I had a panasonic radio installed CIRCUIT CITY IS JUST TRYING TO RUN UP IN YOUR POCKETS I WENT THERE TOO AND BOUGHT A RADIO AND HAD IT INSTALLED AT ONE OF THOSE CAR AUDIO SHOPS THAT SPECIALIZE IN CAR CUSTIMIZING.
