Rust Spots?

I know Honda's have a particular spot on the car that usaully rusts before the rest of the car, and I was wondering if the 3000GT had any spots like that so I know to watch it closely this winter. I'm really freaked out about driving in the snow, I don't want to but I have no choice if I want to keep the car. It's in near mint condition and i'd like it to stay that way. Thanks for any info.

Re: Rust Spots?

The only plaace ive seen rust on one is under the side skirt, on the bottom of the front fender. And that isnt even visable unless you pull off the side skirt.

Re: Rust Spots?

My rotors got some rust on them, but it all burned off with a few hard stops...hmm just be careful with the underbody. Make sure you wash it every so often, don't just focus on the painted part of the car. Make sure you get the salt off the bottom as well.

Re: Rust Spots?

Alright, my underbody is undercoated so hopefully that should protect it pretty well. I'll go for the underbody spray option at the car wash for the rest of the winter then.

Re: Rust Spots?

With past cars i've noticed that it worked great...nothing gets through to the metal.

Re: Re: Rust Spots?

My car is under coated and I ave absolutely zero rust issues with it. The car has always been a northern car too only being registered in PA and WV.

Re: Rust Spots?

Undercoating is just a heavy layer of tar sprayed onto the bottom of your car. When I worked at the dealership last year, we would have to coat the wheel wells, all sheet metal on teh bottom of the car, pretty much everything except exhaust, the rear, tranny and motor.

You can do it yourself if you buy lots of the cans at autozone. But the stuff sucks if you get it on you, you need to wash it off with kerosene.

Plus if you ever change out stuff on the bottom of your car, you better hope that the guy that did it didn't coat every bolt in the tar junk.

It is probably still around $100. Yes it is protective, but I'm not planning on ever doing it...and I could have done it for free....

Re: Rust Spots?

in my country there are regulations that you have to undercoat a car you import and the dealerships have to do it to their cars to. the undercoat is a wery long lasting protection and it is said that the protection lasts for about 10-15 years so this is something you dont have to worry about for a while.

there are 3 places i have noticed rust on my car
1.under the trunk door.
2.on the end of the doors (probably just my door opening on other cars and the paint coming of and thus the protection)
3. the roof. i have noticed 3 spots on my roof wich i sanded down and re-painted
