Tranny Swap 3rd Gen

I Have An 83 V8 Swapped Firebird. Ive Been Real Hard On The Car And Have Changed Everything On It More Than A Few Times. My Last Transmission Was A 700r4 W/2400 Stall And I Had A 3.08 Rearend Locked With A Mini-spool. Things Happened And I Destroyed The Gears Along With The Tranny. I Found A 3.23 Differential And Put In With A Th350 Tranny Until I Get The Old 700r4 Rebuilt. The Th350 Has A Final Gear Ratio Of 1:1 Unlike The .70:1 Ratio Of The Overdrive 700r4.

The Problem Im Having Is That Car Is Maxing Out At 120 Km/h. Ive Had 350/th350 Cars Before, Im Not Sure The Gears In Them. Could This Somehow Be Changed With A Different Stall Speed Converter, Or Is 3.23 Gears With A 3 Speed Tranny Just Not Ment To Be?

Re: Tranny Swap 3rd Gen

Its your rear axle gear ratio.if you add a bunch of top end to it,its gonna make it a tird off the line if you still got the 305 engine

Re: Tranny Swap 3rd Gen

well my cars fine off the line, it has a mild 350ci. it dont really matter. once the o/d tranny is back in, the 3.23 axle will work fine. i just didnt think 3.23 gears were that bad. what gears do you have HOTROD CHEVYZ?

Re: Tranny Swap 3rd Gen

i dont really remember actually, but it hums right along at 90,and still has quite a bit of pedal left. Its sorta slow off the line cause the gear vs cam profile.I think it might be a 308,i have the box around here somwhere..I cant run a OD transmission, cause they have too many problems.I have the 350 trans, cause it isnt as problematic as a 7r4.

Ive rebuilt trannys a time or two.The 700r4's always come back to haunt you.Or they do me at least.if you rebuild your just get a whole new valvebody,do yourself a flavor
