Killed a chevy...

Ok so im driving along, normal speed...Not going fast or swirving or anything...(Im in a 02 camry SE V6) and im at a light...this yellow caviler pulls up to me...Hes got his sound thumping...a fart pipe...and a bigass dent in his door...So he looks over at me, I dont look back...the light turns green, I floor it...He floors it...His car musta been a stick because it took me off the line...then at about 35, i flew by him...I was about 5 cars on him...I wasn't even flooring it anymore...I don't think he was ethier...Well i hear him drop a gear and try to fly by me...So then i get pissed and gun it...I dust him again...I get to the next light...I give him the thumbs up...He rolls down his window and says,'' Try that shit again!'' So im like, '' Ok! with pleasure!'' So this time, I take him off the line, and i don't let off...I was about 7 cars on him...going 70...when i stoped...I had to, I was going to miss my turn...Before i turn I give him the thumbs up again...He gives me the finger...What an asshole...I hate people like that...Can't accept the fast that there car sucks...Yeah i know some cavilers can get fast, like 1000 horse, But i have never met up with one of those...I didn't even want to race the guy...Man, I need a real car to smoke people with...7 cars on chevys isn't enough

Re: Killed a chevy...

If your car is an automatic you will have a better chance off the line because the torque converter nearly doubles your torque at the line, and you can't exactly gloat over the fact that you beat a "chevy" because a cavalier doesn't quite cut it as a chevy

Re: Killed a chevy...

Agree with drumcat, when people talk about a chevy, they generally talk about something that has a chevy 350, but hey, a kill is a kill

John Lingenfelter built a Turbocharged Cavvy also. he got it to 1000 HP.

BUT

You're never going to meet one on the streets.

Re: Killed a chevy...

a cavalier is a chevy nonetheless...just like an escort is a ford...wow, are you chevy drivers getting a little touchy these days? lol

a torque converter will not double your driveline torque.

a torque converter is a fluid coupler. what it basically does is that the turbine side of the converter will spin the fluid so fast, into the impeller side of the thing to cause it to sort of lock. which means unless the torque converter is electronically locked, you will never have 100% of the engine torque to transfer to the tranny.

a clutch is a direct mechanical linkage from the fly wheel to the tranny. there fore you will get 100% of the torque with less power lose.
a tq converter will generally eat up from 10-20 more whp compared to a 5 speed tranny on the dyno.

Ummm, i never heard of a torque converter doubling your torque. To my knowledge a torque converter actually makes you lose torque because it is transfering energy through a fluid, and as we all know fluids can be compressed to a certain extent, and it takes energy to compress that fluid, and the energy that is used to compress that fluid is derived from the power being transferred through it, that being the power produced by the engine. So in short, the power is being lost through the transfer of power through the automatic transmission fluid. And just so you dont think im full of BS i looked it up on www.pagewise.com and it said that there is a 2 to 8 percentage loss of power from the crankshaft to the input shaft of the transmission.

Re: Killed a chevy...

He is right, a torque converter will increase your torque at the line vs a manual. The torque converter basically acts as a fluid gear reduction, which as we all know increases torque. One reason why autos are great for drag racing.
