two 12" subs or one 15" sub
is it worth getting two 12" subs (800w pioneer) or just having one 15" sub (1000w boschmann) for best/loudest bass? also is there much sound quality reduction by porting the box and is carpeting very important?

Carpeting isn't important it's just a preference. I have 1 15" in a ported box and I just got it carpeted the other day, before that, it was just wood for months. Either way it doesn't matter, just what you like.

Re: two 12" subs or one 15" sub
two 12's will have more output then a single 15" but not much more. a 15 will have about 3/4-4/5 the output of 2 12's

ok thanks two 12" subs it is which will be in a ported box. one more question would older used subs/amps be worth getting, as long as they are in good condition for the much cheaper price or they the sort of thing that is better brand new?

Re: two 12" subs or one 15" sub
depends on the subs. If they pound out like brand new, then go for it. but if they seem like they are getting a little old, then forget it. you dont wanna buy something that youre just gonna have to replace.

Re: two 12" subs or one 15" sub
If it was from a good brand and a knowledgable user then used stuff is ok to get, but I wouldn't get a used audiobahn (very easily to screw up) from some random punk high school kid. Wut kinda budget are u workin with and what stuff are you lookin at now?

Re: two 12" subs or one 15" sub
Well lets see. lets say both the 2 12" subs and the 1 15" sub have a flat piston. and that the diameter of usable surface area is truely 12" diameter and 15" diameter.
A=Pi R^2 A=3.14*6^2 A=3.14*36 A=~113 sqin. 2 12's=226 sqin. A=3.14*7.5^2 A=3.14*56.25 A=~176.5 in order to gain 1dB with the same ammount of excursion the surface area must be increased by 33% (in a sealed and IB aplication. ported is another story) 226-176.5=49.5 49.5/226=x/100 x= ~22% the difference is very slim to none as far as your ears are concerned. and any phase change between the 2 12's will cause cancelation. but this is with all other things being the same. basically look at over all displacement of the woofers at full excursion and wether or not they can reach full excursion with you given power input. i would go with a single 15 but others would say 2 12's for cosmetic or power handleing reasons. |

Re: two 12" subs or one 15" sub
Yea 2 12's off say 500 watts and 1 15 off say 500 watts the two 12's will be slightly louder to your ears not much. but then you add twice the power at 500 watts per each 12 now you have a 3db gain from that plus the approximate 1db gain so then you've gained 4db approximately without other factors included.

well i am looking at spending no more than 300 NZ dollars (about US$220)for the subs and a similar amount for the amp so nothing too expensive. Im choosing the two 12" subs for cosmetic reasons i guess and the brand fits in with the rest of my system being pioneer-(pioneer dusnt make 15" subs)

Re: two 12" subs or one 15" sub
2 adire audio shiva 12's by far. maybe 200w each if that and it will well over power most any pioner mids and highs. they are 125 USD each. as far amps go Hifonics would probably be the way to go. The only problem with the subs is most all adire woofers are shipped factory direct. from the US to NZ that is going to be a pretty penny's worth of shipping.

ok thanks for that, I'm awaiting pricing for them at the moment. Seem like great subs but no luck with sourcing the hifonics amplifiers.

Hifonics is a main stream brand. Check out Onlinecarstereo.com that is where i would get it here in america. or go to their website and find the dealers closest to you.
