Possible Memory Seat malfunction?!

All,

My 2001 Passat Wagon GLX has the memory seat option.
I have my seat/mirror settings memorized on button 3, and my wife's on button 1.

Prior to driving, I push button 3 and everything adjusts accordingly.
However, I've noticed that upon returning to the car, the mirrors always seem to change, even though no other memory buttons have been pushed. The seat stays in position, though. Anyone else experience this? Anyone know where I can find out more about the memory seat functions? The owner's manual wasn't that descriptive.

I have seen this on other cars, the driver 1 position is the default. If you use the remote to unlock the vehicle it will go back to this position.
