tranny problems

the tranny in my 98 4x4 ram seems to have a lock up converter .while driving at steady speed the converter seems to be unlocking & locking at very little change in grade . also the overdrive seems alittle to fast to downshift .

Are you running oversize tires or pulling anything?

Re: tranny problems

Check the dealer for service bulletins on that tranny. Thats what sucks about the computer driven vehicles. Sometimes if you hit the sweet spot in RPM's the tranny keeps switching gears. Damn robots.

Re: tranny problems

I had similar problems with the transmission in my '99 3500. Also hard shifts, holding back, and when I would put it in reverse it would take up to ten seconds to even shift. I changed the fluid, filter, and added Lucas transmission fluid additive, and in over a year I've had no problem. I would suggest the maintenance before bringing it to a dealer. I've heard many horror stories with Dodge transmissions.

I just went through the same problem with my 2002 and it turned out to be the larger tires I was running.
Reprogrammed computer and no problems since.
