2004 montana half dead when cold outside

Earlier this week the temperatures here in southern ontario were really low overnight, -20 C and with the windchill it felt like -35C. cold but not exactly Siberia.

So i start the 2004 montana in the morning, it has 6000 km on it, and i was amazed to find that half the systems barely worked. for starters, the crank time was about 3 seconds before the engine finally started. Once it started it made this weird growling high pitch noise. I never heard this kind of noise from this engine. I let it warm up for like 5 minutes and then started driving. The engine was barely producing any power. I mean, i could floor it and not get anything from it.

Once i started driving i noticed the power steering was mediocre. I could barely stir the vehicle and this went on for a good 25 minutes until normal steering was restored. The volume button on the radio was frozen stuck. I had to use quite a bit of force to turn it around. the brakes barely worked. I would press the brakes but the car took forever to stop. Luckily there was no snow or ice on the road.

In contrast, I have a 1992 Ciera with 3300 and a 2000 Intrigue and none of them have shown these problems. I also had a 1992 Explorer that I traded for the montana and it too didn't give me any of these problems (except the typical lifters noise that virtually every Explorer has when the engine's cold).

Is this the kind of quality I should expect from GM?

I would have to chalk that up to the cold weather. I find it takes a little longer than my Sunfire to warm up, obviously.

Of course it's the cold weather, but I didn't think it would affect the car that much. And as I said none of my other cars have this problem. Considering this one is the newest and has a little over 6000 kms on it I was a bit surprised.
