93 Bonneville brake problem

First: Merry Christmas to everyone!

The passenger side front brake caliper on my 93 Bonneville is overheating due to its keeping pressure on the rotor. I thought I had the problem fixed after I replaced the rotor (it was warped), the pads, and the caliper. But, it is still heating up. I put a new hose on it yesterday and I haven't driven it yet today. One other item of information is that the ABS light is on. It has been on for some time. I just haven't been able to get it repaired.

So, three questions for the forum:

What else could be causing my caliper overheating problem (assuming that the hose didn't fix it)?

Would a problem in the ABS system cause the caliper to stay out.

Any suggestions for finding the ABS problem? Can I test the sensors, etc?

Good News! Replacing the hose seems to have fixed the problem for now. But, I would still appreciate any info on my ABS problem! Thanks in advance!

I will not tell you what to do: I'll tell you what I 'd do if asking myself same question: I'd pull out the ABS fuse and see if it changes something in the problem.....
My other question now: what about the wheel bearing (hub assembly)? failure in this often causes the ABS light to show? If you do not notice any humming sound in driving, it is probably OK.

That's funny... I recently pulled the ABS bulb so the light wouldnt be on anymore.

If you really want it fixed you can go to a GM dealer to pull codes for the ABS. This is different than engine diagnostics and can not be read with a paper clip or an Actron scanner you get at Autozone. This will tell you where to start.

As stated above, hub failure can lead to an ABS problem but more often it is a failure of the speed sensor while the hub assembly is still OK. That is what makes it more difficult to pinpoint.





The above pics are from a 93 parts car. Shown are a front hub assembly and speed sensor ring. As the hub spins, the teeth along the outer part of the hub pass by two magnets in the sensor ring creating a varying voltage. The faster it spins, the higher the voltage. This is what the ABS computer uses to determine the speed of each wheel. Youy ABS problem can be anywhere from the teeth on the hub all the way to the computer. That's why having the codes read is the first step.
