Hey I have a 99 ex sedan and the person who had it before me had a system and blew the damm door speakers and im also looking to get a head unit. I was looking around and this is what I found. Im on a budget for these two things prob under 300 and I am later planning on getting some subs and amp/s etc.... But here are the links to what I am looking at. Can you tell me what you think or give me some suggestions

Re: head unit and door speakers

I wouldn't buy the Aiwa Headunit. They do shelf systems good, but they aren't too great when it comes to car audio. I would stick with Alpine in general. You could get a semi decent Alpine HU for 200 or so. It wouldn't be anything special, and wouldn't have MP3 play back. Another brand to look at is Panasonic. I know it's not the best but I have one of the newer ones and it has been working out well for me. Pioneer has some very reputable decks but again you won't get anything special by them in your price range.

On to speakers, Pioneer speakers are pretty good for the price. Although I wouldn't bother with the 4 and 5 way speakers they have. They 1 or 2 extra "supertweeters" play notes so high that your ears can't hear them, might annoy your dog though.

Re: head unit and door speakers

I'd save up and buy a decent headunit, and speakers that can handle some power.. if you want workable speakers.. go to radioshack, or walmart and buy the $60 walmart special pioneers and put them in..

For the headunits, id suggest looking at things like CD signal to nise ratio, the higer the better. The EQ options, like presets, 7 band, bass boost. XM or sirus capability if you plan on that. MP3 / cdrw playback. Preamp output and the voltage(higer is better) if you plan on subs or externally amping your door speakers.

For speakers look at the RMS handling. The cone material. Pulps and papers arent as good as other composite types. Surround material, rubber is best, paper and foam arent as good. Sensitivity, higher is better. Impeadence, should be 4 ohms, if its 8 if wont be as loud.

Thats all i can think of off the top of my head.

Re: head unit and door speakers

I have those speakers in my Civic and I love them. With the right HU they are damn loud without distortion. I'm also running this as a HU: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....6&type=product It's a really basic HU, and has no mp3 playback but it sounds great and plays burned CD's.
