front end wobbling on 91 4 runner

Ok I cant figure this out. After I drive awhile my front end starts shimining and wobbling all over . Its weird though it only does it after I go awhile. Its almost like a bearing or something starts to warm up then it starts doing it. The front linkage seems pretty tight and I even change the idler arm but it still does it. My steering box has a pretty good leak out of the seal but I dont let it run out, dont think that would have anything to do with it. I did notice my outer cv boots are almost all the way off. Dont know how long its been that way but im going to ned to fix it. Do you think if the cv joints dried out and got dirt and whatever in there it could cause this after it runs down the road awhile. Thats the only thing I can think of. I think Ill put it in 4 wheel and see if it does it. If it doesnt maybe it is the front cv joints, who knows

Re: front end wobbling on 91 4 runner

Does it do it between certain speeds? If so I would get tires rotated and balanced....Have you jacked up front and SAFELY supported with blocks or jack stands and pulled/grabbed top and bottom of tire and checked for slop???

It is possible if you have bad seals in power steering for it to amplify a vibration in steering

Check for slop in U-joints in drive shafts from transfer case and carrier bearing??Might also check tranny mount while down there as well...what the heck eh lol

As far as CV Joints...Seriously doubt this is a problem yet as you have described but I would strongly reccomend taking them off and either take them to a CV joint rebuilder if nearby and have them clean them up,repack with lube and replace boots before they go south on you and cost you lots more money or do the job yourself if you are experienced in such...goodluck

Oh yeah and this is something you should do if it hasn't been done in last 20,000 miles either way.....check everything else out....and then change your transmission filter and fluid if automatic and check fluid levels in rearend and differential case and lube all fittings on frontend and drive shafts

. Theres no play in the front end at all. I changed the cv boots and repacked the front rotors. The cv joints appeared fine other than dirty and out of grease. I cleaned them, repacked them and put it back together so Ill see how it goes. All the u joints are fine too

Check your shocks after the "warm up" period.

Damn I am pretty sure I know what your problem is now if not too late bud.....on your *drag* link there is a shock/steering dampner attached to it...when it warms up from use so to speak it will get *mushier*...just disconnect one end and see how easy it is to compress and uncompress ..if it is fast both ways or little resistence...replace it.

Check your front tires for out of roundness and or bulges. I had the same prob. changed the front tires and was good to go.Try swapping the front with the rear ones, that's a cheap trouble shoot.

I had the same problem with my car. It turned out the be the outer tie rods. The second possible cause for shimmies could be the rack and pinion.

lol I don't know....I'm not a mechanic, but my dad knows quite a bit (experience) and he had the rack and pinion replaced on my car and it had the same symptoms.
