87 Crown Vic 5.0 PCV Valve Location?

Hi everyone,
I cannot find the PCV Valve anywhere on my 87 Crown Vic 5.0.The Chilton repair manual I have for the car says the PCV Valve is located in the drivers side Valve Cover, and also shows a pic of it there, but on my 5.0 it is'nt there.Nor is there a Bung or Gommet Hole anywhere on eather of the valve covers, the engine oil filler cap is in the passenger side valve cover and has a tube running from it to the intake manifold to recycle some of the blowby gases, but it clearly still has to have a PCV Valve Somewhere.Just the other day she started to idle real hard and i'm sure the PCV Valve is clogged with sludge,I'm aware it could also be the EGR,but i'd like to replace the PCV Valve first.I have the correct PCV Valve right now in hand, but I'm at a loss to where it is i've looked everywhere,a local shop mech wants to charge me $75 to replace a $2.75 part.If anyone has any ideas,or could tell me where it is located on the engine,it would be greatly appriciated.Thx!

Re: 87 Crown Vic 5.0 PCV Valve Location?

it's on the back of the lower intake plenum tward the firewall. if you lean way back over the engine and look down (you might need a light) you can see the valve. while you're back tehre you can clean/change the screen in the hole. an ease way to get the screen out is to use a screw, twist it into the wire mesh and pull it out. Hope this helps. if you still can't find it I can post a pic

it just lifts out (the grommet it fits in will/may come out too) and you can pull the hose off before or after lifting it out of the hole.

I know how to replace the PCV Valve itself,I just cant get to it.The 5.0's Air Intake Manifold is in the way.I can't see the valve, get my hand on it,or even so much as reach it with the tip of my finger, the air intake manifold is totally obtructing the access.I guess there's no way around removing it,I dont see any other way to get at the PCV Valve.Seems like a incredibly stupid move on Ford's part to put a routine mantenance part(like the pcv valve)that has to be changed every 10,000 Miles,in a place where the entire Air Intake Manifold has to be removed to get at it.I just hope I dont have to remove the entire throttle body as well.Thx for all ur help.

you can reach it if you lean/lay on the engine and look straight down at the fire wall, you can take the upper intake off pretty easily as long as you have the right T bit for the intake plate, but it's a PITA when it's cold

I found a local shop mech who knew how to change it out without removing the upper intake, unfortunatly he did'nt show me how he did it,but the $24.00 he charged me to do it was definatly better than freezing my A** off outside in the cold N.C. winter. The cars idle is back to normal, and the accelleration has been restored.New Bosch O2 Sensors and the PCV Valve replacement feel like they have took 15yrs. off this 18yr old engine.I Love my Crown Vic even more Now.Thx for all ur help!
