1999 Grand Am GT (Keyed)

Some gutless coward keyed my passenger side door and my back panel on my car. The scratch goes real light then deep (about 7 inches) then real light then real deep again on the back panel. (again, about 6 to 7 inches)

I have a bottle of fire engine red touch up paint and I also bought turtle wax scratch remover. does anyone have any idea's?

I used this $3.00 bottle of touch up paint,
it doesn't look half bad, but the scratch is now red, still noticable.

My uncle owns a respectable auto body shop, he said it will be about $1,200 to paint the door and back quarter panels. Because he said the way the car is designed, the entire back of the car is one piece.

I have a $500.00 deductable on my auto insurance. I don't think so!

any other solutions?

I you matched the paint real good with that touch up paint stuff, then you can take some rubbing compound and blend it in with the other paint. Then get some good wax and buff it out. You will still be able to notice is close up, but you'll have to deal with it.

Thanks! I will certainly give it a try.
will the touch up paint protect from rust in the future?

You uncle must do some premium quality work for $1,200 for just a door and quarter panel(s). For that much maaco here will do a real nice job on a whole car. To put "real nice" into perspective maaco will do a real nice but not show quality paint job on a whole car for $250, not show quality being they don't attempt to do any spot not easily visible to people passing by your parked vehicle (no door jams, truck beds, stuff like that). But the paint will look like a new car no less.

Honestly that's a rip off for a paint job, i would go to another place and get an estimate, family or not. Mine got hit parked on drivers side rear, they fixed the dent and painted the rear quarter as well as the door for $445's and it has a lifetime warranty againt defects in the paint or workmen ship

He is correct about the back being a solid piece up to the roof. But that doesnt mean they have to paint the enite solid piece of sheetmetal. They can paint the damaged area and blend it into the surrounding areas. This is better because the new paint is going to have a slightly higher gloss than what is currently there due to just age and the elements. If he were to paint just the solid piece the next body panel door or whatever that is next to the painted area would contrast. Thats why they blend it in.
