engine shaking and smells. help?

my 2004 cavalier is dying. i pulled her into the garage the other day to clear snow off and she started shaking for a second. i turned her off and she seemed to be fine the past few days. i got stuck in a snowstorm yesterday. the car drove home fine. today i took her out and warmed the car up because we are having really low temps today (5 degrees).. i noticed a rubbery burning smell but had to drive anyways. so the check engine light came on and she starts shaking if i go above 35 mph and theres still the burning smell. im gettin her looked at on monday. any ideas? overheating brakes?

Re: engine shaking and smells. help?

I was having that problem too. Check engine light, surging, bad smell, but mine was almost like an electrical burning smell. At any rate, took it to the garage, they replace the MAP sensor, and with the exception of rough idle, it's been fine ever since. No smell, no surging, no check engine light.

Hope this helps.

Jim.

this sort of sounds similar to what is happening to my car, did you ever find out what the problem was?
