Replacing brakes and rotors

Two weeks ago I had a friend change my front brake pads and rotors. Went to a NAPA store and purchased front rotors for $25 ea (made in China! but had the same thickness as domestic rotors & had a machined cross-hatch pattern) plus ceramic pads. Total cost of parts was around $150 for the fronts.

With that cost, throw away your old rotors and put new ones on. Changing pads and rotors is very straightforward. Need appropriate size hex wrenches to loosen the calipers until they separate. Rotor and pads come right off.

This is the time to bleed the brakes. My pedal feel was getting very squooshy until we kept topping off the brake fluid tank with new brake fluid and constantly pumping the brake to squirt out old fluid. It was black (had never been changed). If you never had bled brakes, get someone who has done this before to help.

When I change my rears soon, I will do a complete brake bleed, but just doing the fronts made a big difference in pedal braking response.
