clutch...hard decision
i know yall have posted several times on clutches but i didnt really find what i was looking for. i will be doing the sr20det redtop/blacktop swap hopefully is feb. and i have already started to search for parts and where to get them from but im stuck on the damn clutch decision as we all know there is a lot of clutches out there to choose from but many are pos and shoud be destroyed. i like the ACT clutches and ok with the price as long as i wont be disapointed but i like SPEC prices but have heard a little of negatives on there kits. now i found this clutch kit http://heavythrottle.com/ if im correct its for the sr20det, can experienced people please let me know what you think about this clutch?

Re: clutch...hard decision
Just one thing to keep in mind when buying a clutch. They all say, OMG OUR CLUTCH CAN HOLD UP TO 900000hp AND ITS FLOURESCENT GREEN TOO! But they dont mention that 250 ft/lbs of torque will grind it into a pancake. Get one for your application. Make sure if you know your gonna upgrade turbo or do some big power uppages, that you get a clutch that will be ok with that. Otherwise you just gotta do it again. And dont get a pink pressure plate.

Re: clutch...hard decision
I have a spec stage 4....spec is more for driving on the street. Its easier to start off in first gear...The next clutch I'm gonna get is ACT because that is a lot rougher more for tracks.

Re: clutch...hard decision
Exedy Stage II 3 Puck 400$
NISMO Super Copper Mix w/ Flywheel 900$ When I get a Clutch it will be one of those. Ive heard bad things about ACT and SPEC. I've Heard nothing but good things about Exedy and their Knock offs. |

sorry about the link that website wont allow you to copy the page you are on so this is a description and type of ACT it is "NS1-HDSS This kit includes these components: N-015 - Heavy Duty Pressure Plate NSD007S - Performance Street Disc RB810 - Release Bearing PB1012 - Pilot Bearing AT01 - Alignment Tool Torque Capacity: 362 ft/lbs."
or should i buy an exedy, couple people telling me they like them, but also like the ACT, but know nothing about the SPEC so its hard to decide. now i do not wont to have to put a lot of leg pressure just to hit clutch i want it to be clean, little pressure and nice feeling when going out of one gear into another.

Re: clutch...hard decision
I have the ACT HDSS for my KA-T. It is holding up really well. I would definately recommend it. This clutch is rated for 270 or so ft/lbs but I have heard of it holding up to 400ft/lbs. I believe Tat is familiar with this. Point being, ACTs are underrated. It should hold as much power as you can make with the stock internals. Damn near stock feel too. Just a little more leg pressure required. Gets rid of that rubber band feel of the stocker.

Re: clutch...hard decision
no KA clutsh is diff frm a SR clutsh.
anyways i have the stock clutsh (with all the upgreads i have) its ok... i like it bcus its soft and nice, especially in traffic. i don't recomend going with stock dough, most of people here drag and do durn-outs.

Re: clutch...hard decision
it depends on how much power u plan on laying down and what ur gunna use it for if u dont plan on racing or drifting much and u arent gunna build ur engine to have insane amounts of power a stage one or 2 should do u fine

Re: clutch...hard decision
I race frequently but I usually don't launch very often. Theres no point with my open diff. I prefer to race from a roll anyways. But its pretty easy to slip and it doesn't grab real hard. Its much like the stock clutch just stronger. My stocker was slipping really bad launching and shifting to second, but this one doesn't. I also recommend getting rid of the dampener box. That alone will give your clutch a whole new feel. www.zeroyon.com has the instructions.
