loud squeeling noise - not belt
When i get in my car in the morning and start driving theres a high pitched squeel coming from the front passenger side of the car. Any ideas of what this could be? It only happens in the winter when the car is cold. No more squeel once it warms up. It usually happens when i am driving but today i noticed it while sitting at a stop light. HELP!

Re: loud squeeling noise - not belt
why do you think its not the belt? does the sound change with RPM change? year/model/mileage?

Re: loud squeeling noise - not belt
It is a loud squeel noise. Just like metal rubbing on metal. Its more high pitched then a squeeling belt. I have a 94 SL2 with 91k miles. The squeeling dies down in higher RPMs but does not go away until the car warms up.

Hey bro that ear drum-piercing screech is most definitley your belt tensioner. They usually go at around 100k miles on these s-series engines. I had to replace mine recently and got the part from an Advance auto parts store for like $30 I believe.
