Angry why wont it shift?

OKAY i have a 1993 acura integra gs. it is a stick and just in the last few days i cant get it to shift! sometimes first gear will be smooth other times the whole car will shake then finally go. then second gear is really hard to get into, i have to us muscle to get it into gear. then after i have been driving it for a little while i cant even down shift or get the clutch to ingage. there are a lot of miles on the car...is it possible that the it just needs to be replaced or is there a fluid that needs to be changed or flushed? i really want to get this fixed. i was just planning on selling the car and getting a 5.0 so i need to fix this a.s.a.p. any help would be great.

Re: why wont it shift?

Could be your clutch slave and master cylinder, I have had a problem similar to this and I replaced both of those and I was all set. Although my problem was slightly different, I hate to say it but your tranny might be shot.

Re: why wont it shift?

I'm having nearly the exact same problem, except mine will only happen for a mile or so, then will be fine.

my buddy had a problem just like that in his 93 teg. Turns out one of his clutch springs was broken and another looked pretty bad. New clutch solved that problem. Next week somethin else was broke though. That car was/is a pos. Its been sitting inone spot on the side of my house for about three months now.

Re: why wont it shift?

signal748...it wouldn't be syncros, those would jsut grind alot, but still alow u to get into gear and wouldn't cause the car to shake , i would check the cluth out first, the fluid rarely needs to get changed, but it definitely sounds like a clutch problem

Re: why wont it shift?

No, that's not true. Syncros grind when they're going bad, not once they're completely gone. When I have this problem, if I push the clutch in, the car is in neutral, and when i let it out, it still catches. So it can't be the clutch. From what I've seen, it could be anything from a shift bushing to a master cylinder...I guess each case is different.
