if your damage exceeds 50% of the car's bluebook value they total it. if you have reciepts or proof of your mods they will sometimes give you more. if your damage is less than 50% then the claims guy decides how much in damages you have an either has you get an estimate to compare to their quote or some places have the claims person cut you a check right there.

if it is totalled it will effect your resell value. if that matters or not is on you. i totalled my si, kept, and rebuilt it knowing i'm going to own it well past it's value anyways. that car has sentimental values that are priceless. it's the last car our best friend had helped us work on before he passed away.

you really need to decide what that car is worth to you

Re: got into an (not too bad)...need some advice...

Well regardless, I WILL buy back the car.
Heres the scenario:
Lets say he totals it and offers me 1500. Ok...then i buy it back for lets say 600. So I have a totalled car and 900 in pocket to fix it.
OR I can get an estimate done for about $900 and show it to him...maybe hell take it and cut me a check for $900.
Third option is that I don't let them total it and i don't get ANY money out of it. I will do this before letting them total it because I'm not going thru the process of having to go thru inspections, emissions and salvaged title paperwork...
I've put too much into this car to let them total it.
It's my choice or not if I let him total it right?

i think that depends on your state and ins company. you might want to check with your local dmv and ins company.

shoot, you could call another (local) ins company and ask all kinds of questions about laws and regulations reguarding a wreck. that way you know how to deal with yours

I worked at a body shop in MD. It was 50-80% of the value of the car. depends on the insurance company.

Re: got into an (not too bad)...need some advice...

well i know you put in alot of work in your car dude and it might have sentimental value, but if i was you I would try to keep the car no matter what, and get money out of it as much as you can squeeze out of your claim. If it works out, you can take out all the mods you put in your car keep what ever you want. buy the same car and install your previous mods to the new(used) hatch, plus if you part out parts you dont want you will make a little extra money. I dont know if it sounds good but thats what i would do, that way you will avoid running into problems cause by the accident. Just to be on the safe side....good luck and keep us updated on your claim, i will like to know how things turn out for you....peace

Re: got into an (not too bad)...need some advice...

update...
well it turned out pretty good.
I went to go meet with the adjuster. My plan was to show him a quote for just parts which came to about $800 dollars for the hood, bumper, fender, and headlight OEM from honda. Well, he came out of the office and looked at my car. He walked around it once and was like "it's totalled"...simple as that. But, I tried pleading with him and i showed him my quote for the parts from honda. I told him that I have over $3k in the engine alone. I also told him that my father and I built this car for the last 2 years and it has sentimental value (lol that's a buncha BS that i made up). He said I can't pay you for just the parts sorry. Then I was like, well, I can't have this car totalled, so "c-ya", "keep your money". I told him that I would just take it as is and fix it outta my pocket and I was about to get in when he was like "wait, I'll make you a deal." He called it a "gentleman's agreement". I was like ok what do you have in mind?...he decided to cut me a check for $1,000 and not total my car. I was happy...just to not have the crx totalled but i got money too so i'm straight now. I already had a set of new and uninstalled aftermarket fenders and a WW RS front bumper sittin in the shed. So all i need is a headlight, and a hood. But, I already bought new black projectors for 100.00 and I have $900 left to buy a hood...so i'll prolly be gettin' a CF hood from jdmshit.com. I'm not sure yet tho because I don't want to install a CF hood in the winter....up here we gets hella snow. Anyways...i made about $500 off of it...so i guess i can look at it as a good thing. I was so depressed but now i'm not knowing that i'm not losing my baby rex!

Re: got into an (not too bad)...need some advice...

check out: http://www.seibon.com/ you should have seen their SEMA display...holy cow! i think they have something like 6-7 different hoods for the crx

just don't buy this style of hood pin EVER!

we installed some on my friend's crx. the pins are made aluminum. the head of the pin snapped off while she was doing 60mph. shattered her windshield and CF hood. it also put a ding in her door and scratched her sunroof cover. apparently she's not the first this happened to. she called up autozone and without hesitation they told her to get 2-3 estimates and they would cut her a check. sure enough she got like $2-2500. she got an expensive estimate up here in oregon and waited until she moved to cali to get it fixed for much cheaper. she ended up with a 9 piece body kit and the EVO CF hood.

the same thing happened to 1 of her friends 1 month later. except he didn't have them locked correctly so nobody is fixing his ride.

those style pins are made of cheap material and really hard to line up when locking

Re: got into an (not too bad)...need some advice...

too late...i bought a oem cf hood from jdmshit.com and their 92-95 mugen lip (molding it to stock bumper), a new stock bumper, and some G2 black housing projectors, as well as black corners, and new bumper lights...
Got a whole new front end outta it with
almost 400 dollars left over...
so i bought all new stock parts for the winter also like stock fenders, headlights, and a stock hood so i wont ruin the new stuff through these very rough new england winters...

Im glad you said something and that I didnt find them at auto zone last time i was there. I went looking for them a lil while ago after my accident bc i couldnt get it to close properly. I have the other style with the pins that slip onto the bar thing (more normal kind).
