I Have a 2001 grand am that has automatic headlight control, with a recently added remote starter. I've now noticed that the headlights/daytime running lights come on just when the key is turned to the ON position and the engine has not been started (emergency brake off). I am lead to believe by the GM dealer that the headlights should only come on after the car has been started and possibly even after it has been switched into gear.
Yes I realize it could be the remote starter screwing things up as the bypass module for the passlock needed to be replaced after it failed and the car wouldn't start due to the passlock. Has anyone heard this before or know a possible cause or solution????(other then the remote starter) thanks |

the auto headlights are controlled by your parking brake, if the parking brake is on, your lights will not go on. if it is off the lights will go on soon as you get to the on position with your key.

Re: 2001 - headlights on before car started
as grfnkll said, It is normal - the lights come on when mine is in the "on" position also. That's how it's spose to be.

I vote on lights on also. Way before I ever installed the remote starter on mine. 4 to 1
