94 grand cherokee limited, 4.0 dead stop takeoff, whats normal?

Hi all, i'm new to 4wd & jeeps but i test drove one that had a kind of a slipping clunk downshift when i got on it hard at takeoff on pavement, is this normal for the jeep?? sorry if this has already been covered but i'm not exactly sure what i'm searching for!Thanks
